Valerio Mazzucconi graduated in 2007 in modern trombone under the tutelage of Ermes Giussani at the “G.Donizetti” Conservatory in Bergamo. In 2010 he began specializing in sackbut at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis. After his studies in Basel he returned to Italy and pursued his career as a trombonist, as well as training as a singer under baritone Fulvio Bettini.
As a sackbut player, Valerio has collaborated with numerous early music ensembles such as Ensemble La Pifarescha, Concerto Romano, i Barocchisti, ensemble Festina Lente, La Stagione Armonica.
He also regularly plays the classical trombone with period orchestras such as I Barocchisti, La Scintilla, Camerata Bern, Kammerorchester Basel, Ghisleri consort and had the possibility of working with many prestigious conductors such as Giovanni Antonini and Diego Fasolis. He has performed in many European festivals, among others the Edimburgh Internatonal Festival, Europa Cantat XVIII, Festival d’Ambronay, Festival Baroque de Pontoise, Salzburg Festpiele.
Concurrently he has developed a notable career with the modern trombone, performing with several orchestras in Italy such as Orchestra Giovanile Cherubini, i Pomeriggi Musicali , Orchestra Sinfonica di Sanremo, Orchestra Verdi di Milano, Teatro Regio di Torino and Teatro Carlo Felice di Genova under the baton of renowned conductors such as Riccardo Muti, Kent Nagano and Donato Renzetti.
