Susanna Defendi

Susanna Defendi studied modern trombone at the “G.Donizetti” Conservatory in Bergamo, where she graduated in 2010 under the tutelage of Ermes Giussani.

In 2011 Susanna discovered the sackbut and developed her interest in early music, attending courses at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, Switzerland. Here she obtained a Master’s degree in historical performance in 2016, studying with Charles Toet and leading early wind instrumentalists. She started performing with many Italian and European ensembles such as Cantar Lontano, Concerto Romano, Ensemble Festina Lente, Ensemble La Pifarescha, La Fonte Musica, Ensemble Opera Prima, I Barocchisti and Concerto Scirocco among others.

She has collaborated with many orchestras such as Ghislieri Choir & Consort, Camerata Bern and Capriccio Barockorchester, performing with the classical trombone.

Moreover she has played in important Italian and European Festivals such as Europa Cantat XVIII, Festival d’Ambronay, Festival Baroque de Pontoise, Festival Resonanzen Wien, and Edimburgh International Festival.
